FUNDAMENTAL COMPOUNDING & CALCULATIONS is a 3-day, 21-hour practice-based course designed for pharmacists, technicians, marketers, and students who are new to compounding or who have had training in the past, but want a refresher. Physicians and other health care professionals are welcome to attend.

This hands-on course focuses on the proper preparation of fundamental dosage forms utilized by pharmacies that are compounding medications for their patients. Participants will learn through pharmacy calculation practice, lectures, and hands-on laboratory training in a fully equipped USP 795 lab.

Our low instructor/participant ratio allows for individual attention and interaction. The program is structured to demonstrate skills that can be immediately implemented by participants.

Course objectives:

 

  • Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations required to accurately compound various non-sterile dosage forms
  • Perform proper garbing with the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), understand lab safety, and applicable environmental controls required to protect compounders
  • Know the importance of the Triad of Care essential to the proper delivery of extemporaneously compounded medications
  • Accurately and effectively use the various pieces of equipment available to compounding practices
  • Properly complete a Compounding Record for each formulation
  • Identify relevant regulations and standards of practice in the compounding industry
  • Dispense compounded medication accurately and efficiently by choosing and properly using available molds and dispensing devices
  • Identify and use drug and compounding specific references required for documentation of the Master Formulation Record
  • Demonstrate their ability to compound each of the following dosage forms using appropriate techniques:
    • Solutions & Suspensions
    • Creams, Ointments, Gels, & Lotions
    • Suppositories & Troches
    • Capsules and other Novel Dosage Forms

CE Credit
Fundamental Compounding and Calculations, a practice- based course, has been approved for 21 contact hours (2.1 CEU’s) of continuing education credit being obtained in the live programming with ACPE Universal Activity Numbers 0201-0000-17-001-L01-P/T. These UAN have an initial release date of 1/1/2017 and an expiration date of 1/1/2020. Attendees will be required to complete an evaluation form at the completion of the program. Attendees requesting CE will be required to provide their NABP e-Profile ID and birthdate (MMDD) to receive credit for any ACPE-accredited CPE session. Due to new ACPE regulations, if required information is received after 60 days, a $250 late fee will be assessed before CE will be processed.
